Paperwork for a Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace boat sale

What to bring to a dockside meetup when you found the boat on a classifieds site. No posting and no scraping.

The ad is not the contract

A listing on Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace is how you found each other. The sale itself still needs a bill of sale with the seller's name, address and signature, the buyer's name and signature, and the boat's make, model, colour, HIN and licence number.

BoatHandoff does not post to those sites and does not read your messages. Meet in a public place, then walk the boat together.

Bring this to the dock

Seller: photo ID, the Pleasure Craft Licence, trailer ownership if a trailer is included, keys, and any service notes you are willing to share.

Buyer: photo ID, payment you both agreed on (a bank draft is easier to trace than cash), and a phone so you can both sign or print the bill of sale.

Agree in writing that the boat is sold as-is, and list the problems you both saw. The full kit keeps that list next to the signatures.

Put it on the bill of sale

The free download covers the proof-of-ownership fields. The full kit adds the walk-through and both signatures.
